This week's topic: What books were you obsessed with as a kid?
The earliest books I remember reading on my own were Spiderman comic books. I loved Spiderman. I also loved The Monster at the End of This Book and Are You My Mother?
As I mentioned in last week's RTW post I loved Ramona Quimby. I read all the Ramona books and pretty much anything by Beverly Cleary that I could get my hands on. The first Beverly Cleary book I read was not Ramona. My 2nd grade teacher directed me to Dear Mr. Henshaw first because all the other girls in the class were reading the Ramona books and all the boys were reading about Henry. Dear Mr. Henshaw was the perfect book for me to read because the kid in the book is dealing with his parents getting a divorce and I was going through that as well.
By the time I got to fourth or fifth grade I was obsessed with The Baby-sitters Club series by Ann M. Martin. I read these books and was always ready and waiting for the newest one to hit the shelves. In sixth grade my friends and I tried to start our own Baby-sitting club. We made signs and held meetings and took the Red Cross baby-sitting class.

I can't believe I left out Are You My Mother! *sob*
I used to read Are You My Mother to my kids ALL the time! Love!
Grover was one of mine too. Yay!
Hi Carrie. Thanks for coming by my blog and following. It's great to meet you.
I used to read comics like Beano and Eagle, and books like Swallows and Amazons. Funnily enough, I also read a lot of the classics from a very early age. A bit wierd :-)
I loved Ramona, too. I can't remember which book it was in, but I loved when she cracked an egg on her head and tried to dry it with the hand drier...but it became scrambled. (I think. It's been a while.)
Great picks!
Grover and Are You My Mother are both ones I don't remember as a child but enjoy reading to kids now.
Oh the Babysitter Club, I LOVED those books. Those books and SVH made me want to be american! Everyone seemed much more interesting in America!
There were also some great cheerleader books out around the same time.
Great choices, I'm enjoying this trip down memory lane :)
I didn't go to Red Cross class lengths, but I *did* buy tights to wear under ripped-knee jeans a la Claudia, whose candy-loving soul was a long-lost twin. Ah, BSC.
I can't believe you said The Monster at the End of this Book! I was JUST telling a friend how much I loved that book when I was a kid. Truly fabulous. :)
Oh man, I haven't thought about Are You My Mother in years. I loved that book so much!
We have this great video of my son as a baby giggling his head off about the bird from Are you My Mother. A true classic.
I loved the Ramona books. I remember reading some of those in fourth grade.
I actually wore out my copies of The Monster at the End of this Book and Are You My Mother? This is where having a sibling seven years younger than me came in handy. We got all new copies of these books.
So much Grover and BSC love today!
OMG, I loved the BSC books. My goal was to own everyone of them. I was pretty close to that goal, but then I lost intrest to FEAR STREET!
I loved Nancy Drew and I went through a horse phase when I was eight but mostly, I read books that boys would be more interested in. I was also a HUGE Spiderman comic reader. Love me some Spiderman.
I got into comics about ten years ago. My husband collects them. There are at least 3 Spiderman posters hanging up in our back room.
