This week Paper Hangover ask the question
What are FIVE of your most distracting (procrastination-worthy) things (habits, websites, etc.) on the internet?
1. Facebook- I love connecting with friends and family on facebook. I do try to limit myself. I don't want to wake up one day and think that my novel isn't done because I was too busy keeping up on the lives of friends from high school.
2. Blogs- I love blogging but I also love reading and commenting on other people's blogs. In my mind reading and commenting is part of being a good blogger. Sometimes even if I don't have a blog post for the day I will still try to go and read/comment on other blogs.
3. Gmail- I check my email.
4. Twitter- I recently got a Twitter account. I did so despite knowing it could be a distraction from writing but I like connecting with other writers on Twitter.
5. Swagbucks- I've been thinking of making a sign that says "Will work for Amazon gift cards". I heard about this site from Emily's Reading Room. Basically the site rewards points for things you probably already do on the internet-search, buying groupons, using coupons, playing games- and you can trade those points in for prizes, like Amazon gift cards.

I should really invest in Swagbucks. *sigh* Another shiny.
Oooh! Swagbucks! Never heard of it before. Adding to my collection of distractors.
I never heard of Swagbucks...I must check it out.
Oh no, Swagbucks! I'm also adding it... shiny Amazon giftcards... *drool*
Blogging is my distraction...
Swagbucks?
Crap.
Hadn't heard of that site...it's a good thing my boss is out today for the long weekend.
I'm so not working today!
Wow it appears we have the same pattern. I wonder if it should be part of the package for writers.
Writers Package
Will include:
Plenty of Procrastination
Triumph's
Rejection
Sweets
Caffiene
1-4 oh yeah, the SAME. *sigh*
I'm so distracted by things like Twitter. BEA was really distracting too. . . I kept thinking about all of those ARCs that people were nabbing *sigh*
Clearly, I have to look into Swagbucks. Because I definitely need ANOTHER procrastination tool. :)
The first four that you mentioned --- basically I just keep alt-tabbing for like 14 hour periods at a time... no work is done, no social networking is really done either, I'm just opening and closing various windows non-stop again and again and then eventually I will die and be put out of this misery!
