A to Z- Anne Shirley

Anne of Green Gables - anne-of-green-gables photo

Happy A to Z Challenge. I'm going to highlight characters and books during the month with the hope of keeping my post short and sweet.

Anne Shirley from the Anne of Green Gables books is full of imagination which helps her escape the sometimes harsh world of being an orphan.  She goes to live on a farm with the Cuthberts, a brother and and sister who were expecting a boy from the orphanage to help with the farm.

Anne speaks her mind which get her in trouble sometimes. With her red hair and freckles she was also a target for teasing.  She is full of imagination, spirit and ideals about how the world should be.

Did you read the Anne of Green Gables books? What was your favorite thing about Anne?

I'm a huge Anne (spelled with an e) fan. I even do a blog series about Kindred Spirits I've met. :) Great A post. I'm a new follower from A-Z. Nice to meet you!

Being a Canadian, you would have thought I would have read it - but I haven't. What I've learned about Anne I've learned through a sort of kinship osmosis. I've heart about it all my life growing up and felt like I'd already read it. Silly, I know.

Hi Carrie - Like Wendy, I confess I did not read Anne of Green Gables - don't really know why either.

I have enjoyed her vicariously through many friends and clients that are great fans and have even travelled to PEI to tour the farmhouse in Cavendish.

I think I will add this to my "must read" bucket list.

What a great theme you have chosen for your A to Z Challenge - I will be back.

What a neat idea. I have not planned out what I'm going to do each day. No, I've not read Anne of Green Gables.

My mom read us these books when we were kids. I felt like Anne was my friend.

This is a great idea for a theme. Anne of Green Gables is one of those books I keep meaning to read but haven't yet. Anne sounds like a character I would love.

A thousand times yes! I so love her, she's so headstrong and smart and vulnerable, just a perfect combo.

I found these books late in life. If I had discovered them as a girl I would have absolutely loved them. As it was I only read the first. Enjoyed it but somehow never got into the series.

I love Anne's humor and cleverness. I love her resourcefulness. I love her love of nature and literature. I love that as I grew up, went to school, fell in love, became a teacher, lived apart from the man she loved, got married--well, you get the picture--so did I. I imagine I will continue coming back to Anne as I eventually have children and see them grow up. And the writing is so lovely, I just can't wait to read them to my kids someday. Great choice!

I don't think I've actually read the book, but I liked the stories based on it that I've seen.

I like her adventurous spirit. :-)

I love this topic and this is one of my favorite books of all time. I like that Anne speaks her mind. I'm kind of like that too! I can't wait to read more!
