RTW- Writing retreat

Road Trip Wednesday is a ‘Blog Carnival,’ where YA Highway's contributors post a weekly writing- or reading-related question that begs to be answered. In the comments, you can hop from destination to destination and get everybody's unique take on the topic.

If you could go on a writing retreat anywhere, where would you go & who would you bring?

I've wanted to go on a writing retreat to the Madeline Island School of the Arts but the last couple summers have been way to busy to accommodate this.

My perfect writing retreat would be situated near a lake or some other body of water. When I needed a break from writing I'd probably want a paddleboard or kayak and maybe a bicycle.

I am not good at roughing it so a some sort of resort type place would be awesome. I would consider roughing it in an airstream trailer somewhere but that airstream has got to be pimped with all the amenities.

I'd definitely bring the gals from my writing group because they were super supportive and awesome. Really anyone who  wants to sit and write for a week or a weekend or whatever.

What about you? Where is your perfect writing retreat?

Anywhere by water would be great as long as there wasn't serious risk of hurricane or other scary things like that. :) I think it would be relaxing, which would put me in the perfect frame of mind to write...or nap.

For me, I think my perfect retreat would have to be WiP-related. Nothing like going to where your story is set to find inspiration (depending on the story, of course).

Yeah... my idea of "roughing it" is staying in a hotel. :)

I hadn't hear about that school before - interesting! And that second lake picture is just beautiful and inspiring.

Beautiful photos and inspiring post, Carrie! My ultimate writing retreat would be at the ocean, with a balcony overlooking the waves and where I could hear the pounding surf. But I would go alone; it's the way I get the most writing done.

A trailer is a great idea - that way you could go to wherever you feel the most inspired and not have to worry about hotels :)

Hey, you know, I've never been on a writing retreat. But now I'm going to put that on my bucket list. Also, I too like bodies of water . . . or, um, bodies in general. Just don't tell my parents. ;)

I'd love to write by a lake! As long as there was air conditioning. :)

I'm all about the Airstream trailer idea. That way you can take your studio all over the place - go retreat-hopping! And when you get home, you still have an "office" to go to.

We are a lot alike in this regard - water, "roughing it." That Madeline Island workshop looks great, doesn't it?
